Workshop by Cheryl Lynch
Night Program by Cheryl Lynch
Cheryl is form Bromall, PA and will be doing a workshop entitled Expand
Your Horizon. In this workshop you will learn several techniques
to transform your ideas into a
design for a quilt. Using a photo, a piece of fabric, a drawing, or Cheryls
inspiration postcards, you will be on your way to making a unique quilt inspired
by something in
your environment.
Supply List:
A photo of or actual architectural design
or element to use for inspiration and to
use as a jumping off point. For example
- a manhole cover, Victorian house gingerbread,
a piece of wall paper or fabric.
( We will all share.)
18'x24' newsprint pad (or there about)
Pencil, Sharpie marker
1 yard of fusible web
An assortment of fabric in your desired color palette. Make sure there is
an assortment of contrast.
Sewing machine in good working order.
Straight pins
Sharp paper scissors (large and small), rotary cutter, mat and ruler.
Assortment of threads that match your fabric.
Cheryl says if you have any questions to a-mail her at oyveyquilts@yahoo.com.
Quilt Show Meeting: Time TBA
Board Meeting
5:30-6:30
The lecture this evening is titled One Quilters Journey.
Cheryl says, Many of us learn how to quilt by taking a class in a local
shop. Traditionally, we make our first sampler quilt by hand - using hand
piecing, hand appliqué and hand quilting. These methods are soon left
behind for the expediency of the machine. But while we gain productivity we
lose the pleasure handwork can bring. Follow me on
my journey as I start quilt making by hand, head down the machine path, and
come full circle to using handwork to embellish my quilts.
Cheryls lecture is also a trunk show.

Workshop: Sew for the Show
We will be working on items for the boutique. If you have any wonderful ideas
please join us and share. Let me know if you need materials to have on hand
so that we can all work on different projects.
I imagine that there will be material to fold and price and lots of odds and
ends to do. Do join us we always have a good time when we are getting ready
for the Show.
The April meeting will be our " very special shopping bag" challenge
quilt. There will be awards for finished and unfinished pieced quilts and
finished and unfinished appliquéd quilts. Remember this would be an
excellent time to do a mini quilt for the Quilt Show, which is fast approaching.
This meeting will also be our Anniversary Meeting. What a special group this
is! There is so much talent in our Courthouse Quilt Guild. We are blest to
have so many
talented quilters, but even more so that all are more than willing to share
their talents with all of us. Please come
and celebrate our Anniversary.

Workshop 9:00 - 4:00
Jo Diggs
Small appliqué with a Fantasy Fish Option
Jo teaches landscapes and fish using a free-cutting method of
designing not using patterns. This certainly sounds like we will all be challenged.
This workshop
will rely on hand stitching rather than machine stitching, so we wont
have to drag those wonderful machines with us,
however we may bring them if we want to. We will need fabric in graduated
colors for the landscapes and fish, so think about colors that are appealing
to you.
There will be a complete materials list in the next newsletter.
Board Meeting 5:30-6:30
Evening Lecture: Quilting on Quilts Jo Diggs
Jo says about the lecture this will be a visual discussion of quilting
patterns and stitch size, spacing and general effect
of quilting shown through slides of antique and contemporary quilts. The focus
is on how quilting elements can truly enhance a quilt top. Show and tell after
slides; my own quilts and antique quilts.
Jo has been teaching quilting since the 1960s. She has been interested
in art science since she was very young.
She graduated from Wellesley college with a BA degree in Art History and went
on the get her MA in teaching from Harvard.
This certainly sounds like a really full day of instruction and challenge.
What fun!!
